Tabling at the Raleigh Fairgrounds Flea Market

Here's something new we're trying - an outreach table at the Fairgrounds Flea Market in Raleigh. Joy Elliott shows off this Sunday's table, which has lots of literature and (of course) ballot access petitions for signing. Notice the spiffo umbrella that Joy brought - it saved the day, as it was very hot!

We may try in the future to have a ballot access specific table, manned by Libertarians, Greens, and Constitutionalists. But for this table getting petition signatures was secondary to being there and available to talk to people. We got about 30 signatures, which would be low for a walking-around sort of day, but this table took the low-key rather than in-your-face approach. We did talk to a number of enthusiastic folks, including some Libertarians who wanted to be added to our mailing list(s) and some folks who wanted more information. Susan also heard The Best Response Ever to someone reading a Libertarian brochure: "Are you married?" :) We do think some snappy signs are called for - maybe a large "LET MY PEOPLE VOTE". Speaking of LMPV, Joy has taken that phrase and designed a great Libertarian T, available at her site. If you'd like to man the table on an upcoming weekend, or help pay the entry fee (only $18/day), please contact chair@wakelp.org

To generate visual interest and some campaign cash for her Soil and Water candidacy, Joy mounted up a bunch of her clever libertarian-themed buttons. Because we thought it would be a Nice Thing To Do (and would get people to linger at our table), we added a bowl of 'Dog water' under the buttons for the overheated canines passing by.
